Eigasai Festival 2026 – “From the Heart”: Celebrating Japanese Culture in Prague

Prague will once again become a meeting point for Japanese culture: the 19th Eigasai Festival at Kino Lucerna invites visitors to discover the diversity of Japanese film and its traditions. Under the motto “From the Heart”, the programme includes not only film screenings but also the popular Japanese Culture Day.

From 9 to 14 February 2026, Prague opens its doors to fans of Japanese culture. For the 19th time, the Eigasai Festival at Kino Lucerna invites visitors to experience unique Japanese films and cultural traditions. Under this year’s motto “From the Heart”, visitors can look forward to special film screenings.

The festival takes its inspiration from Zeami Motokiyo, one of Japan’s most important dramatists and actors, who once compared the artistic message to a flower passed from heart to heart. This image shapes this year’s edition of Eigasai and reminds us that in life, the heart can sometimes be more important than the mind, which constantly drives us towards achievement and practicality. Perhaps now is the right moment to pause and listen to one’s heart.

The festival’s films take audiences to Japan – both present and past. They tell of a world in which love matters more than possessions, where tradition and connection to nature are cherished, and even a simple meal can bring joy when prepared with love and humility. The stories speak of perseverance, even when the goal seems unattainable, of illness without cure, and of social circumstances that seem to shape fate. What all the films share is one thing: they convey humanity, determination, and the power not to give up.
