The city of Prague continues to support community and organic farming. In Jinonice, an additional municipal plot is to be leased to existing projects.

The Prague City Council has approved the lease of another plot in the immediate vicinity of the new site of the wildlife rescue centre in Jinonice. On the land, the MetroFarm association and the U Jiráků farm will expand their activities.

“Leasing additional land and thereby expanding the existing projects of MetroFarm and the U Jiráků farm is good news – both for the city and for the residents of Prague. Community farming and organic produce attract great interest, and both initiatives are valuable partners for the city. The land is in good hands with them,” said Jana Komrsková, Deputy Mayor for Environment and Climate Planning.

Both the MetroFarm association and the farm U Jiráků already manage adjacent plots. The new lease will allow the existing offerings to be expanded. MetroFarm plans, among other things, to increase cultivation areas, build a polytunnel, and erect a covered pavilion to serve as an infrastructure and learning space for school classes. A composting toilet is also planned.

The farm U Jiráků intends to use the new land as a supplement to the nearby farm. Plans include the construction of a polytunnel, storage of feed, and seasonal use as a winter shelter for animals.

The two projects will share the approximately 2,500-square-metre plot in Jinonice. The annual rent is symbolic and amounts to 248 and 440 Czech crowns respectively, which corresponds to a price of 0.275 crowns per square metre per year.
