Prague residents have decided: the new bridge over the Vltava between Podolí and Zlíchov will be called “Dvorecký most”. In the public vote, almost 78 % of the votes went to the geographical name, with “most Anežky České” trailing far behind.
Prague has chosen the name for the new bridge between Podolí and Zlíchov: citizens clearly opted for “Dvorecký most”. In the public vote at the end of January, out of 7,595 votes, 5,914 (77.9 %) were for Dvorecký, while only 1,680 voters (22.1 %) chose “most Anežky České”; one ballot was invalid.
In addition to the online vote via the Portál Pražana, it was also possible to vote using paper ballots in the districts of Praha 4 and Praha 5, or at the city hall. Here too, the name Dvorecký most dominated: out of 296 paper votes, 245 were for Dvorecký most.
“The possibility to choose the name online has once again shown that citizen participation in Prague works,” commented Jaromír Beránek, Deputy Mayor for Transport. His colleague Petr Hlaváček added: “I am pleased that the geographical name was chosen; it has long been embedded in public awareness.”

In addition to the name choice, the bridge will also have a cultural character: a lamp installation by the artist Krištof Kintera will turn the bridge into a visible work of art in public space, emphasised Culture Councillor Tomáš Slabihoudek.
The final decision now lies with the city councillors, who will also take into account the recommendation of the Místopisná komise, which considers historical, linguistic, and geographical aspects.
The new bridge will be an important traffic link between Praha 4 and Praha 5 for buses, cyclists, and pedestrians. Its opening is planned for April. Architecturally, the bridge features white concrete, with echoes of Cubism and Brutalism from the architects of Atelier 6 and TUBES. The total cost, including the lamp installation and the landscaping around the bridge, amounts to around 1.97 billion crowns.
