Prague is fundamentally modernising its mobility app. With PID Lítačka 2.0, a technically redesigned platform is set to launch at the beginning of next year, offering significantly more features and aiming to save costs in the long term.

After almost eight years, the city is developing a new generation of the PID Lítačka mobility app. The technical overhaul is being carried out by Operátor ICT, which has been responsible for central digital transport services for Prague and the Central Bohemian Region for years. The new app is scheduled to go into operation at the beginning of next year.

According to Jaromír Beránek, First Deputy Mayor of Prague for Transport, a comprehensive modernisation has become necessary. Despite high user ratings, the current version is increasingly reaching its technical limits. In order to integrate new functions, the city is now investing specifically in a complete redesign. In the long term, savings are expected.

In future, the app is set to offer considerably more than before. Planned features include the integration of on-demand transport, payment of fees for charging electric vehicles, improved forecasts of delays in public transport, as well as targeted searches for step-free connections, including the integration of lifts. Recommendations for the best carriage on the metro for a quick changeover are also planned. Ticket purchases are to be simplified, and multiple tickets will be able to be activated simultaneously.

Growing importance in everyday life

Originally, PID Lítačka was primarily conceived as an application for purchasing tickets and simple route searches. It has since developed into a comprehensive digital tool for travelling across Prague’s entire public transport network.

According to Benedikt Kotmel, board member of Operátor ICT, around 200,000 people currently use the app daily, with approximately two million registered users in total. Annual growth stands at 20 to 30 per cent. In 2025 alone, more than 109 million connections were searched via the app. PID Lítačka has thus become an integral part of everyday life for hundreds of thousands of passengers.

Two central objectives

With version 2.0, the city is pursuing two main goals: firstly, to create a technologically stable and flexible platform that can be developed more easily in the future; secondly, to improve user comfort.

The specifically announced new features include:

  • a long-requested dark mode

  • recommendations for the optimal metro carriage

  • the simultaneous purchase and activation of multiple tickets

  • a simplified parking function, including early termination

From 2027, the app is also set to serve fully as a platform for on-demand transport in the Central Bohemian Region.

The rollout will take place gradually. Individual modules will be tested on an ongoing basis. The current version will remain fully functional until automatic updates are implemented, ensuring that the transition takes place without any additional effort for users.
