Old Shoes Take on a New Purpose: RunCzech Donates Hundreds of Pairs of Running Shoes to Those in Need

The RunCzech running series combines sport with social engagement. Through initiatives such as the shoe donation campaign “Give Old Shoes a New Purpose”, the series supports charitable organisations in Prague and beyond.

The RunCzech running series goes far beyond sport and also supports charitable causes. Every race within the series cooperates with various charitable organisations, and RunCzech supports good causes even outside the main season. Under the motto “Give Old Shoes a New Purpose”, RunCzech organised, together with the Šatník Nory Fridrichové Foundation, a campaign in which 337 pairs of running shoes were collected over five weeks and subsequently brought to the foundation’s centre in Prague 7.

“RunCzech has worked closely with foundations and charitable organisations since its inception,” explains RunCzech Communications Director Jiří Nečásek. “This involves both raising the visibility of the organisations and collecting financial resources – directly or via registration for our races. Material support takes the concrete form of giving the shoes to those in need. We thank Šatník Nory Fridrichové for facilitating this and everyone who donated their running shoes in our RunCzech Stores.”

The campaign received an enthusiastic response: many people brought their still-functional, used running shoes to the RunCzech Stores in Prague-Holešovice. In return, they received a voucher for a 42% discount on new adidas shoes – symbolically reflecting the marathon distance of 42.195 km. The Šatník Nory Fridrichové Foundation has been supporting single mothers for years and aims to turn their uncertainty into hope.

“We work a lot with sports clubs and companies to motivate our clients and their children to take up sport. Therefore, the collaboration with RunCzech is fantastic,” said Alexandra Řečínská, Head of the Foundation. “For this season, we plan to cooperate to at least the same extent as last year.”

In the past season, RunCzech again made a significant contribution to charitable causes. In total, the initiative of the largest running series project in the Czech Republic provided 3,357,640 CZK for charity.
