With a new high in the freight sector, Prague Airport closed the year 2025. More than 96,000 tonnes of air freight and mail were handled – more than ever before.
In 2025, Prague Airport handled more air freight and mail than ever before. A total of 96,481,135 kilograms were transported – a new operational record surpassing the previous high from 2017. Compared to 2024, this represents an increase of 48 per cent.
“The strong growth was driven, among other factors, by the launch of a regular cargo connection operated by Central Airlines between Prague and Chengdu in China. In addition, capacities of existing cargo providers such as Qatar Airways Cargo, Turkish Cargo and FedEx were expanded. Increased demand in the e-commerce segment as well as additional long-haul passenger connections by new airlines such as Etihad Airways, Asiana Airlines and Air Canada also had a positive impact on cargo volumes,” says Jindřich Zeman, Cargo Development Manager at Prague Airport.
Of the total volume handled last year, 58,672 tonnes – around 61 per cent – were imports. This corresponds to a significant increase of 83 per cent compared to the previous year. Exports reached 37,809 tonnes, accounting for a share of 39 per cent. Here, the year-on-year increase was 14 per cent.
Although Prague Airport is primarily a passenger airport, the freight business plays an important complementary role, according to Zeman. It makes a significant economic contribution to the development of long-haul connections while also enabling the efficient transport of goods over long distances without placing additional strain on motorways through lorry traffic.
