Since Monday, people in the Czech Republic have again been able to suggest locations where the police should carry out speed checks. The aim of the initiative is to reduce the number of road accidents in the Czech Republic and improve road safety.
A new initiative has once again started in the Czech Republic to help improve road safety across the country’s roads. From the beginning of the week until 23 March, citizens nationwide can suggest locations where the police should carry out speed checks. The campaign, called the “Speed Marathon”, is intended to reduce road accidents and improve road safety.
How does the Speed Marathon work?
To suggest a location for speed checks, citizens can visit the website bezpecnecesty.cz (Safe Travel). There, they can mark locations on a map where they believe drivers are exceeding the speed limit. These might include areas near schools, in blind spots, or other similar locations.

The police will then carry out speed checks during the day at these locations, as well as at other sites selected based on their traffic safety analyses. By involving the public in choosing the locations for the checks, the police hope that drivers will better observe speed limits, thereby improving road safety.
