The decisive phase of the Czech ice hockey season is beginning. HC Sparta Praha will face HC Kladno in the first round of the play-offs. The first two games of the series will take place on 9 and 10 March at Prague’s O2 Arena.

With the end of the Extraliga regular season, the match-ups for the first round of the play-offs have been decided. While Mountfield Hradec Králové, Pardubice, Plzeň and Liberec have qualified directly for the quarter-finals, eight other teams will first compete in the so-called preliminary round of the play-offs for the remaining four places.

Fans of HC Sparta Praha can look forward to exciting duels with the club of ice hockey legend Jaromír Jágr: the Prague side will face Rytíři Kladno. The series will be played in a “Best of Five” format – the team that reaches three wins first advances to the quarter-finals.

The series begins on Monday, 9 March. The second game follows a day later. Both matches will be played at the O2 Arena. Face-off is at 18:00 on Monday and 18:30 on Tuesday. The third game of the series is scheduled for Thursday, 12 March. If there is still no winner after three games, a possible fourth match will take place on Friday, 13 March, followed by a decisive fifth game on Sunday, 15 March.

Sparta are greatly looking forward to the play-offs. In the previous season, the O2 Arena was completely sold out for every play-off game. This year, the organisers are once again hoping for a full arena and a special atmosphere.

The quarter-finals begin on 18 March and will be played in a “Best of Seven” format. The Extraliga final is scheduled to start on 18 April, with the new champion to be crowned no earlier than 23 April and no later than a week later.
