The city of Prague is planning a comprehensive transformation of the western part of the Letná Plain. The area, which is currently used mainly as a car park, is to be converted in the future into a park-like green space with a variety of possible uses. The aim is to create more space for relaxation, leisure activities and smaller events.

The city of Prague is planning a transformation of the western part of the Letná Plain. The area is currently used primarily as a car park. In the future, however, a multifunctional park area is to be created there.

A new green area with a total of 61 trees and extensive vegetation measures is planned on an area of more than 6,000 square metres, adapted to the demanding conditions of the site. The project thus follows on from a first phase of planting in this area. As early as December 2025, a total of 120 trees and shrubs were planted around the exit of the Blanka Tunnel as well as along the central oval promenade in the Letná Gardens. The costs for the second phase of the project amount to around 17 million crowns.

“The aim is to restore a more park-like character to this part of the Letná Plain and to offer people a place suitable for leisure activities while also withstanding the demanding conditions of this location,” explained Prague’s Deputy Mayor for the Environment and Climate Policy, Jana Komrsková.

The project envisages converting the existing car park into a versatile area. In the future it is intended to provide space for relaxation, exercise as well as smaller events. The surface will consist of so-called reinforced grass gravel, which is designed to withstand both intensive use by visitors and occasional vehicle traffic during events.

A total of 61 new trees are to be planted on the Letná Plain, most with a trunk circumference of 20 to 25 centimetres. They will be planted in specially prepared root zones with structural substrate designed to ensure good long-term growing conditions – even without intensive irrigation.
