Public transport is considered by many Prague residents to be one of the most reliable services in the city. A new survey shows that buses, the metro and trams continue to enjoy a high level of trust.
People in Prague are largely satisfied with their public transport system. According to a recent survey by the agency STEM/MARK, Prague’s public transport network continues to rank among the best-rated municipal services. Passengers particularly appreciate the speed, the dense network of routes and the reliability of the system.
More than a thousand people took part in the survey – including both residents of the capital and commuters who regularly travel to Prague. Overall, respondents rated the quality of services provided by the Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) at an average of 8.18 out of 10 points.

High level of satisfaction among passengers
Around 74 per cent of passengers said they were satisfied with public transport in Prague. Respondents most frequently cited the speed of connections and the dense network of lines (36 per cent each) as the main advantages. The reliability of services despite often difficult traffic conditions in the city was also highlighted by 28 per cent. Other positive aspects include ticket prices and frequent connections.
However, the main points of criticism vary depending on the user group. For older people, changes to routes are often the main challenge, while parents with small children more frequently point to the lack of lower vehicle entry points or additional low-floor vehicles.
Buses used most frequently
Three quarters of people who use public transport have to change at least once on their way to work or school. Buses are used most often: around 31 per cent of respondents use them daily. They are followed by the metro (28 per cent) and trams (26 per cent).

Real-time information becoming increasingly important
One particular strength of Prague’s public transport operator is the information service for passengers. Around 44 per cent of respondents who use public transport at least once a month rate the information on connections and timetables with the highest score. Real-time information about departures is also being used more frequently.
Annual pass remains the first choice
When it comes to tickets, the annual pass remains by far the most popular option. According to the survey, 67 per cent of satisfied passengers would be willing to pay 4,000 crowns or more for an annual pass. At the same time, 80 per cent of respondents expect that prices for public transport may rise over the course of this year.
Overall, the survey results show that public transport in Prague continues to play a central role in people’s everyday lives. Speed, a dense network and a good passenger information service are among the most important factors behind the high level of passenger satisfaction.
