The farmers’ market at Jiřího-z-Poděbrad Square will start its new season on Wednesday. Visitors can once again look forward to fresh regional products, handmade goods and a varied accompanying programme.
Residents of Vinohrady and Žižkov, as well as visitors from the wider area, can once again look forward to regular shopping for fresh seasonal food in the heart of Prague 3. The farmers’ market at Jiřího z Poděbrad Square (Trhy na Jiřáku) will open its new season on Wednesday, 18 March.
This year, the market will once again take place in front of the primary school at Jiřího-z-Poděbrad Square, where work connected with the extensive reconstruction of the square is nearing completion after two years.

“We are all looking forward to the completion of the work at Jiřák, which will of course also have a positive effect on the appearance of the farmers’ market. I am convinced that the completed reconstruction of Jiřího-z-Poděbrad Square at the beginning of summer will also increase the attractiveness of the market. In the surrounding area, there will be sufficient public space for people of all age groups,” said the mayor of Prague 3, Michal Vronský.
The farmers’ market at Jiřák has for years been one of the most visited markets in the Czech capital. Fresh fruit and vegetables, international food, coffee, wine, organic products or handmade goods are offered.

On the day of the official season opening, visitors can also expect a varied accompanying programme for young and old. Interested hobby gardeners can take part in a workshop on making so-called seed bombs and receive practical tips. A themed treasure hunt across the market will be organised for children. Anyone who arrives wearing green will also receive a small gift.
The bakeries Antonín and Bezlepková, as well as the wholegrain bakery Dvorník, will provide culinary highlights. They will bake large loaves of bread for tasting, served with a spread from the Krasolesí dairy. In addition, three cheerful stilt walkers dressed as carrots will stroll through the market, handing out small gifts, buttons and good cheer.

In the future, the markets at Jiřák will again take place regularly from Wednesday to Friday between 8 am and 6 pm, and on Saturdays from 8 am to 2 pm.
In recent weeks, three farmers’ markets popular with Prague residents – Náplavka, Kulaťák and Malostranská – have already opened their season.
