The new Dvorecký Bridge over the Vltava is expected to noticeably change public transport in Prague from 18 April. At the same time, several tram and bus lines will adjust their routes and will in future operate over the new bridge.

With the opening of the new Dvorecký Bridge over the Vltava on 18 April, extensive changes to public transport in Prague are expected. Several tram and bus lines will adjust their routes and will in future use the new connection between Smíchov and Podolí.

The 361-metre-long bridge is intended to create new direct connections while also improving the reliability of transport. Buses in particular will in future be able to avoid several heavily used sections around the Barrandov Bridge, where delays have frequently occurred. Tram lines 20 and 21 as well as bus lines 118, 124, 196 and 197 will operate over the new bridge. At night, lines 901 and 914 are also expected to use the new connection.

The bridge currently under construction between Podolí and Zlíchov is intended for public transport, pedestrians and cyclists. Vehicles of the integrated emergency services will also be allowed to use it, but not individual car traffic. Prague city councillors still have to decide on the official name of the bridge. In an online survey, the city’s residents clearly favoured the name “Dvorecký Bridge”.

The bridge over the Vltava will connect Podolí in Prague 4 with Zlíchov in Prague 5. Its significance goes far beyond a simple crossing: the Dvorecký Bridge will become an important component of Prague’s transport network and is intended in particular to strengthen public transport.

New bridge combines art, function and leisure

The new Dvorecký Bridge (Dvorecký most) in Prague will not only serve as a connection between Podolí and Zlíchov for transport users, but will also become a new cultural meeting point in Prague thanks to modern art installations.

The total costs, including the lighting system and the design of the surrounding area of the bridge, amount to around 1.97 billion crowns.
