Following the fatal accident involving a schoolgirl in Břevnov, Prague’s public transport company is adapting its campaign. With a deliberately provocative message, it aims to draw attention to the risks in road traffic.
After the tragic death of a schoolgirl following an accident with a tram in the Prague district of Břevnov, Prague’s public transport company has further sharpened its ongoing safety campaign. The already familiar initiative has been given a new, deliberately provocative message after the accident – and is now sparking debate.
The campaign “Neskákej mi pod kola” (“Don’t jump under my wheels”) has been running in Prague for some time. After the fatal accident around two weeks ago in the Břevnov district, the Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) has adjusted the design: trams now display a scoreboard with an updated “score” of 0:1 between pedestrians and trams.
The yellow vehicles therefore carry an updated version of the campaign, intended to illustrate in a stark way how unequal a collision between a person and a tram is. The display is complemented by additional warning notices.

The transport company expressed deep sorrow following the accident and offered its condolences to the family. At the same time, it issued a strong appeal particularly to parents: children should be especially attentive in road traffic, not cross directly behind stationary trams, and avoid distractions such as loud headphones or smartphones.
Deliberately sharpened rather than softened
According to DPP, the decision to make the campaign even more explicit after the accident is no coincidence. Spokesman Daniel Šabík told the news portal Novinky.cz that it is not the message that is too drastic, but rather the behaviour of many pedestrians in everyday life. Basic traffic rules are often ignored – sometimes with life-threatening consequences.

According to the company’s assessment, the campaign is having an effect. The number of collisions between trams and pedestrians has recently declined. In 2025, the transport company recorded 72 collisions with pedestrians, around 14.3 per cent fewer than in the previous year. However, the number of fatalities remained unchanged at two cases.
Most accidents ended comparatively lightly: in around 82 per cent of cases there were no or only minor injuries, while 16 accidents resulted in serious injuries.
The transport company intends to continue and further intensify its prevention work – including in cooperation with the police and road safety organisations. At the same time, DPP emphasises that awareness in families and schools plays a central role in improving safety in road traffic.
