With a colourful programme and several highlights, Prague Zoo will kick off its 95th season on Saturday. Visitors can expect a varied opening featuring new animal species, an exhibition and interactive activities for the whole family.

On Saturday, 28 March 2026, Prague Zoo will begin its 95th season – with a diverse programme aimed at visitors of all age groups. In addition to new animal species, the programme will also include an exhibition, a time capsule event and numerous hands-on activities.

The official opening begins at 11:00 on the terrace of the Education Centre. Alongside Zoo Director Lenka Poliáková, Prague Mayor Bohuslav Svoboda and Deputy Mayor for the Environment Jana Komrsková are also expected to attend.

The programme starts earlier, at 10:30, with a musical opening: the band “The BUGLES” will provide a Beatles revival performance. This will be followed by the opening of the photo exhibition “Příroda v zoo”, showcasing striking images of wildlife taken directly within the Prague Zoo grounds. Visitors will not only be able to view photos of squirrels, grass snakes and kingfishers, but also speak with curators, who will offer insights into the lives of these animals.

A special highlight follows in the afternoon: at 13:00, a time capsule containing the magazine “ABC” will be buried near the Archa Theatre, with plans for it to be reopened in 25 years. It will then be moved to the so-called Veselovský Meadow.

The zoo is also entering the new season with new animal species, including several notable predators. These will be presented at 14:30 as part of a dedicated showcase.

In addition, the zoo will offer an extensive accompanying programme – particularly for families. In the Children’s Zoo, visitors can enjoy face painting, photo stations, as well as creative and educational activities. These include building insect hotels, learning about native reptiles and amphibians, and gaining insights into conservation projects such as efforts to restore the crucian carp population.
