More presence in public spaces: Prague 2 is responding to rising visitor numbers in parks and squares by introducing a new prevention concept from April.
From 1 April 2026, a “Team for Prevention and Assistance” (“Tým prevence a pomoci městská část Praha 2”) will be deployed in selected areas of the district. The decision was taken by the district council at its most recent meeting. The aim of the measure is to strengthen safety and order in heavily frequented areas. Especially in the warmer months, demands on cleanliness and public safety increase significantly.
District Mayor Jan Korseska sees the project as an important building block: prevention is a key component of long-term measures to both improve residents’ sense of safety and reduce follow-up costs.
The two-person patrols will operate daily from April to the end of October – including weekends and public holidays – between 8:00 and 22:00. They will be recognisable by reflective vests with appropriate markings.
According to Deputy Mayor Jan Recman, the concept focuses on visibility and direct engagement. The teams are expected to respond early to problematic behaviour, de-escalate conflicts and, if necessary, involve the relevant authorities. The aim is to prevent escalation in advance through presence and communication.
With this new approach, Prague 2 is prioritising prevention over reaction – aiming to ensure greater calm, safety and better coexistence in public spaces in the long term.
