The Prague City Museum is planning the redesign of the park at Florenc and has presented initial concrete proposals. The public space is to be significantly upgraded and reimagined in functional terms.
The Prague City Museum (Muzeum Prahy) is pushing ahead with the redesign of the park in front of its main headquarters at Florenc. The aim is to significantly enhance the public space and make it more attractive for both residents and visitors to the city. At the same time, the area is intended to serve as a representative entrance to the museum, which reopened at the end of last year following a five-year renovation.
According to museum director Ivo Macek, the park and the building currently do not form a harmonious whole. This makes it all the more important to treat both elements as a unified concept in the future. The project is supported by the administration of Prague 8, which manages the park and has expressly welcomed the museum’s initiative.

Particularly noteworthy is the role of the museum itself: for the first time in the Czech Republic, such an institution is taking active responsibility for the transformation of a public space. Several stakeholders are working together on the implementation, including the municipal company Technologie hlavního města Prahy, which is responsible for lighting, as well as the public transport operator Dopravní podnik hl. m. Prahy. The latter is currently carrying out construction work at Florenc metro station and also owns adjacent land beneath the Magistrála.
The project also has political backing: Prague 8 Mayor Ondřej Gros sees the planned transformation as an important first step towards upgrading an area that has long been considered problematic and is expected to undergo dynamic development in the coming years.

The design comes from the architectural studio New Visit, led by Tomáš Jiránek, and involves investments of around CZK 50 million. Plans include new paving, additional green areas, and spaces for relaxation with seating.
A special feature of the redesign is the return of the “Český lev” statue, which originally stood in front of the museum. The monument to fallen Czech soldiers from the revolutionary years 1848–1849 was created by sculptor Josef Max and had been located in the Na Poříčí park since 1875 before being removed in the 1950s.
The planned revitalisation is part of a broader development project for the Florenc and Těšnov area, coordinated by the Prague Institute of Planning and Development.
