The modernisation of the emergency department at Na Františku Hospital in Prague 1 has begun. The project aims to significantly improve acute medical care in the city centre and bring it in line with current standards.

The Prague 1 municipal authority has launched a comprehensive modernisation of the emergency department at Na Františku Hospital. The aim of the project is to increase the quality and availability of acute medical care for residents and visitors in the centre of the Czech capital. Construction work began in February 2026 and is expected to take around 14 months.

Modern emergency department to meet current standards

As part of the works, the emergency department will be completely structurally renovated, the layout adjusted and the technical equipment brought up to date. In future, operations are to be organised more clearly and efficiently and meet the current requirements of acute medicine.

In addition to the structural measures, the project also includes the acquisition of new medical devices and modern equipment. Both patients and medical staff are expected to benefit.

According to the Prague 1 councillor responsible for health, Michal Müller, the new emergency department represents a fundamental step in the further development of the hospital. The emergency care system will offer more space, better conditions and more modern equipment.

Pharmacy to be relocated to main entrance

The project also includes the relocation and modernisation of the hospital pharmacy. It will in future be located in close proximity to the main entrance and directly connected to the emergency department. The aim is to improve the availability of medicines and make processes more efficient here as well.

The pharmacy will also include the sale of medical supplies. Both areas will continue to operate around the clock, i.e. on a 24/7 basis.

Construction during ongoing operations

The modernisation is being carried out while the hospital remains in operation and is divided into several construction phases to ensure continuous medical care.

With a total volume of around CZK 63 million, the project is one of the most significant healthcare investments by Prague 1. While the municipal authority is financing the construction work and equipment, the hospital itself is responsible for procuring the medical technology.

In future, the modernised emergency department will also include out-of-hours medical services. This means that Na Františku Hospital will cover a broad range of healthcare services – from the emergency department and out-of-hours care to emergency dental services, as well as a 24-hour pharmacy and the sale of medical supplies. The aim is to provide a modern, functional system of care focused on safety, efficiency and patient comfort.
