The Easter holidays traditionally bring a strong influx of visitors to Prague and mark the start of the new tourist season. This year, around 250,000 guests are expected in the city.

The Easter holidays traditionally mark the beginning of the tourist season in Prague. According to estimates by Prague City Tourism, around 250,000 visitors are expected to travel to the Czech capital during Easter week – a similar number to last year. Easter markets, religious sights and the city’s distinctive festive atmosphere are particularly in demand.

As Chief Executive Officer František Cipro explains, the city is well prepared for the influx of visitors. In recent months, extensive training has been carried out for employees in the tourism sector, focusing not only on customer service but also on safety aspects.

The high level of demand is also reflected in current data: according to the industry report by STR, hotel occupancy around Easter regularly reaches around 80 per cent. Prague’s attractions also record significantly higher visitor numbers during this period.

According to Adéla Dobrovolná, sites managed by Prague City Tourism reach around one and a half times the volume of an average week during Easter. This is illustrated by figures from the Old Town Hall (Staroměstská radnice), where visitor numbers are around 45 per cent higher compared to a typical week.

New analyses by the payment services provider Mastercard also underline the importance of the Easter period for tourism. Demand for flights to Prague has risen noticeably. Interest has increased particularly strongly from South Korea and China, while within Europe, travellers from countries with strong religious traditions, such as Italy and Spain, are arriving in greater numbers.

In addition, the Easter holidays also promote so-called pilgrimage tourism. In this context, Prague City Tourism has recently launched the platform “Praha duchovní” (spiritual Prague), presenting Prague as a city of spiritual stories, living traditions and unique places, while also strengthening the concept of slow tourism.
