With multi-billion-crown investments and significantly rising visitor numbers, the modernisation of two of Prague’s key sites is progressing steadily. Both Výstaviště Praha and the Holešovice Market have been undergoing extensive upgrades for several years and are being strategically repositioned for contemporary use.
The municipal company Výstaviště Praha, a.s., which manages both the Výstaviště Praha site and the Holešovice Market (Holešovická Tržnice), has reported stable development for several years. Both visitor numbers and the number of events, as well as the investment volume, are rising steadily. The transformation of the two sites has been underway since 2018 and includes investments worth billions, extensive renovations of historic buildings, as well as new usage and business models.
Billion-Crown Project Shapes Development
At the centre of the current investments is the comprehensive reconstruction of the Průmyslový palác. The project, which is backed by the City of Prague, has a volume of more than three billion crowns (excluding VAT). The handover of the building is planned for June, with the first events expected to follow in the autumn.

According to Tomáš Hübl, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the company, the Průmyslový palác is considered one of the central landmarks of the site and beyond that of the entire city. With the planned reopening as part of Designblok, a new phase of development is to be initiated, which is intended to bring the entire site to an international level in the field of exhibition and event spaces.
Holešovická Tržnice: Catching Up and Potential
At the same time, the Holešovice Market (Holešovická Tržnice) is also being modernised step by step. The site, which has been neglected for years, requires investments of around five billion crowns, according to the city administration.
Prague City Councillor Adam Zábranský emphasises that the need for investment not only causes costs but also offers economic opportunities: a modernised site could in future generate annual revenues of more than 200 million crowns for the municipal budget.

Initial measures are already underway, including technical modernisations as well as the renovation of individual halls. A key project is the transformation of the former slaughter exchange in Hall 4, which is scheduled to open in 2026.
Significantly Increasing Visitor Numbers
Clear growth is also evident in usage:
Výstaviště Praha recently recorded 2.97 million visitors – an increase of 17.7 per cent year-on-year.
The Holešovická Tržnice reached 2.99 million visitors, corresponding to an increase of 9.8 per cent.
Together, both sites attract nearly six million visitors per year – an above-average figure compared to similar municipal facilities in the Czech Republic.
