More efficient processes have made it possible to complete individual construction phases more quickly and organise them in parallel

Good news for drivers in Prague: The full closure of one of Prague’s busiest outbound roads, Plzeňská Street, will come into effect later than originally planned – while the duration of the measure will also be reduced.
Construction work on Plzeňská Street in Prague is entering its next phase: Since 16 April 2026, the fifth stage of the comprehensive modernisation of utility networks and road surfaces has been underway. Contrary to initial plans, traffic in a key section will remain in operation for several more weeks.
The full closure originally scheduled for mid-April has been postponed. According to the latest information, it will now come into effect on 3 May 2026. The reason is improved coordination between the companies involved, which has enabled new technical solutions during the course of the work so far.
Improved coordination shortens construction time
The adjustment to the timetable is primarily due to closer cooperation between Pražská plynárenská Distribuce and Pražská vodohospodářská společnost. More efficient processes have made it possible to complete individual construction phases more quickly and organise them in parallel.
In addition, the use of construction site areas has been optimised. In the section between U Tyrše and the Podbělohorská junction, work can continue without the need to fully close traffic immediately.
The use of the tram track for general traffic – as in earlier construction phases – is also helping to avoid diversions for the time being.
Diversion from early May
A full closure is now planned from 2 May. During the afternoon, traffic management and traffic light phases will be adjusted. From 3 May, traffic in the section between Na Čečeličce and Holečkova will be fully diverted via Vrchlického Street. This arrangement is expected to remain in place until 30 August 2026.
Part of a wider infrastructure project
The construction work forms part of a broader infrastructure project aimed at renewing outdated and partly failure-prone utility networks. The work is being coordinated by the utility companies and will subsequently be completed by the Technická správa komunikací hl. m. Prahy with the refurbishment of the road surfaces.
