Prague Zoo Celebrates Bird Weekend with World Penguin Day and Flamingo Day

Visitors to Prague Zoo can look forward to a special weekend programme dedicated to two of the world’s best-known bird species. The occasion marks World Penguin Day on Saturday and International Flamingo Day on Sunday.

Prague Zoo is dedicating the upcoming weekend entirely to birds. On Saturday, 25 April, World Penguin Day will take centre stage, followed by International Flamingo Day on Sunday, 26 April. Visitors can look forward to guided feedings, educational programmes and special interactive activities.

Saturday’s programme will focus on the Humboldt penguins living at the zoo. Between 12 pm and 4 pm, guided encounters with the animals will take place every hour in the Penguin Pavilion. A special guided feeding will also begin at 11 am. During the sessions, zoo guides will provide information not only about the animals’ behaviour and habitat, but also about the growing threats penguins face in the wild due to human activity.

Sunday will then belong to the flamingos. As part of International Flamingo Day, the zoo will also present the new EAZA campaign “Wetlands for Life”, which aims to raise awareness about the protection of wetlands. An interactive learning and play station will be available on the Veselovský Meadow in the children’s zoo from 10 am to 4 pm.

In addition, the zoo is organising guided encounters with all three flamingo species kept in Prague. Between 10 am and 1 pm, visitors can attend sessions with the Chilean and Cuban flamingos, while encounters with the greater flamingos will take place from 2 pm to 4 pm.

Sunday, 26 April – International Flamingo Day

• 10:00 am–1:00 pm: Guided encounters with the Chilean and Cuban flamingos

• 2:00 pm–4:00 pm: Guided encounters with the greater flamingos
