Heatwave Returns to the Czech Republic After Brief Cool Spell

After a brief cool spell at the beginning of the week, temperatures in the Czech Republic are set to rise sharply again. The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute has already issued warnings of extreme heat and an increased risk of wildfires.

Following the warm weekend, a cold front reached the Czech Republic, initially bringing cooler temperatures and localised rainfall. However, the rain and showers are expected to ease by Monday evening. Afterwards, hot summer weather will return, with temperatures set to peak towards the end of the week. On Friday, highs of up to 39 degrees are expected in the warmest parts of the country.

According to the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ), temperatures on Monday will not exceed 25 degrees. In addition, a fresh north-westerly to westerly wind is expected, with local gusts of up to 55 kilometres per hour. Isolated thunderstorms are also possible, particularly in Moravia and Silesia.

By midweek, sunny and almost cloudless weather will become established. On Wednesday, temperatures will already reach 29 to 33 degrees. Thursday will be even hotter, with highs of 33 to 38 degrees.

Meteorologists expect the heatwave to reach its peak on Friday. Temperatures of up to 39 degrees are possible in the warmest parts of the country. Despite predominantly sunny weather, isolated showers or thunderstorms may develop during the course of the day.

In view of the summer heat, people are advised to drink plenty of fluids, avoid direct sunlight wherever possible, and take particular care of older people, children, and other vulnerable groups.
