Prague-Smíchov Station Reconstruction Enters Next Phase

The extensive reconstruction of Praha-Smíchov railway station is entering its next phase. Two new platforms are due to open as early as October.

The extensive reconstruction of Praha-Smíchov railway station is progressing. Two new platforms, which are due to open in October, already have complete canopies. Shelters and waiting rooms are currently being installed, while paving work is also under way.

At the same time, construction workers are installing escalators for the new footbridge. It will connect Smíchov and Radlice and provide direct access to trains. Tracks are already being laid between the two platforms.

In parallel, individual sections of the future bus terminal, for which the City of Prague is responsible, are being built ahead of schedule. This approach was agreed between the Czech Railway Administration, Správa železnic, and the city. It is intended to ensure that the subsequent work on the entire terminal causes as little disruption to train services as possible.

Track Closure Between Smíchov and Radotín Begins Earlier Than Planned

The construction project is now entering its next phase. As a result, the already planned closure of one track between Smíchov and Radotín will begin one week earlier than originally scheduled. Instead of 19 August, the closure will begin on 12 August.

Due to the reduced capacity of the line, morning trains between Prague Main Station and Radotín, as well as afternoon services in the opposite direction, will be diverted. They will therefore not stop at Velká Chuchle or Smíchov. Other services will skip the stop at Velká Chuchle. In addition, several morning trains between Radotín and Smíchov will be cancelled.

Only three morning services on weekdays will be affected by the cancellations, so no major disruption is expected. Coordinators will be available at the stations to help passengers find their way. From Wednesday next week, the extent of the restrictions will change again. Detailed information on individual services is available in the apps and on the websites of the respective transport operators, as well as from ROPID.

The earlier start of the closure is due to a sewer in the construction area. Its route differs from that shown in the original documentation. Its technical condition required additional construction and safety measures. Bringing the closure forward is intended to avoid significantly longer restrictions in the autumn and keep the project on schedule.

The project is due to be completed by the end of 2028. By then, the renovation of the station building, scheduled for 2028 to 2030, is expected to be under way.
