Prague Airport handled more than 1.9 million passengers in July

Prague’s Václav Havel Airport handled more than 1.9 million passengers in July. Compared with the same month last year, this represents an increase of just under two per cent. Destinations in Greece and Spain were particularly popular during the height of summer.

A total of 1,907,237 travellers used Prague Airport in July, 1.86 per cent more than in the same month last year. This is according to the airport’s latest statistics.

The most popular destination country was Greece, with 179,664 passengers. Spain followed with 171,955 and the United Kingdom with 168,465 travellers. Other countries in strong demand included Italy, Turkey, Germany, Egypt, France, Bulgaria and the Netherlands.

London remains the most popular flight destination

Among individual destinations, London was clearly in the lead. A total of 103,704 passengers flew from Prague to the British capital in July. The Turkish holiday destination Antalya followed in second place with 70,226 travellers. A total of 67,622 passengers flew to Istanbul. Other most-used connections included Frankfurt, Paris, Tel Aviv, Amsterdam, Rome, Barcelona and Copenhagen.

From January to the end of July, Václav Havel Airport handled a total of 10,131,539 passengers. This was 5.11 per cent more than in the same period last year.

The number of aircraft movements also increased slightly in July. The airport recorded 13,935 take-offs and landings, compared with 13,826 in the same month last year.

Air cargo increases significantly since the start of the year

Cargo volumes also increased significantly. Around 62,945 tonnes of air cargo were handled in the first seven months – around a quarter more than last year. In July itself, however, cargo volumes declined. At around 8,518 tonnes, they were 10.3 per cent below the level recorded in the same month last year.

Last year, more than 17.75 million passengers used Václav Havel Airport. This brought the airport close to its previous record from 2019, when around 17.8 million travellers were recorded before the coronavirus pandemic. For this year, the airport expects a total of 18.9 million passengers.
