Florenc metro station: Ke Štvanici street reopens to traffic after renovation
Renovation of ceiling above metro vestibule completed – Full reopening planned for December

The extensive renovation work at Prague’s Florenc transport hub is entering its final phase. From Tuesday, 1 September, Ke Štvanici street will once again be fully open to traffic and pedestrians.
Prague Public Transit Company has completed the final stage of the reconstruction of the ceiling slab above the vestibule of Florenc metro station and the adjacent pedestrian underpass. This means that the section of Ke Štvanici street between Sokolovská and Křižíkova can be used again from the start of morning services on 1 September.
Several bus routes are also returning to their original stops. Routes 133, 175, 207, 908 and 909 will once again stop in Ke Štvanici street. Route 135 will again serve its regular stop in Křižíkova near exit E6 of the metro station. Route 194 will also return to its original stop.

Work lasted almost 22 months
The final construction phase began in mid-November 2024 and lasted almost 22 months. Among other things, the second half of the original monolithic concrete ceiling beneath the Ke Štvanici/Křižíkova junction was removed and replaced with a new reinforced concrete structure.
According to DPP, 37 approximately 20-metre-long and eleven seven-metre-long prestressed beams were also replaced. This corresponds to almost one third of the original beams. In addition, several kilometres of utility lines were laid and new waterproofing was installed across the entire ceiling structure.

Work on the entire ceiling slab had already begun in March 2022. According to the transport company, an area equivalent to around three quarters of a football pitch has been renovated in total.
Underpass remains partially closed
However, the modernisation of Florenc has not yet been fully completed. Work in the pedestrian underpass and in areas of the station not accessible to the public will continue. For the time being, passengers will therefore only be able to use exits E2, E3 and E6 in Křižíkova or towards the central bus station. Exits E4 at the Křižíkova/Ke Štvanici junction and E5 near the Museum of the City of Prague, as well as the lift, are not expected to reopen until December, together with the remaining part of the underpass.

In the vestibule and the adjacent tunnel, work is currently being completed on the ventilation system and all cabling installations, among other things. At the same time, the retail units and public toilets are being modernised. The main fans of the ventilation system are also being replaced in the station’s operational areas. Finally, new LED lighting, new ceiling cladding and a modern passenger information system are to be installed.
