New Tram Line at Prague’s National Museum Completed Ahead of Schedule

The new tram line at Prague’s National Museum has been completed significantly earlier than planned. Since today, Saturday, lines 11 and 13 have once again been operating normally via the Muzeum stop.

Construction work on the new tram line at Prague’s National Museum has been completed – almost six months earlier than originally planned. This means that tram lines 11 and 13 have been able to return to their regular route via Muzeum since today, Saturday, 5 September 2026.

Since the start of services on Saturday, the two lines have once again been operating on the Italská – Muzeum – I. P. Pavlova section. Services were originally not expected to resume until late February or early March 2027. Instead of the estimated 20 months, the work took less than 15 months.

New Track Connection and Step-Free Stops

The new line begins at the existing stub track in the so-called Museum Oasis. A new triangular junction was built at the intersection of Legerova and Vinohradská, providing connections both towards Vinohradská and Škrétova Street.

At the same time, the existing tram line on Vinohradská between the Španělská and Legerova intersections was completely renewed. The adjoining pavements, roads and drainage systems were also modernised.

The entire area around the Muzeum stops has been given a new appearance. The two stops are now located opposite each other and are fully accessible. Their platforms provide enough space to accommodate two multi-section trams or two services at the same time. Pedestrian crossings have been installed at both ends.

Warning Lights to Protect Pedestrians

A new feature is five illuminated strips installed along the tracks. By lighting up and flashing, they are designed to warn pedestrians of approaching trams at dusk and in the dark. According to the public transport company, this is the first installation of such a warning system along tram tracks in Prague.

Connection to Wenceslas Square to Follow in Mid-2027

Part of the new line on Vinohradská will eventually be connected to the tram line currently under construction on Wenceslas Square. Tram services from Wenceslas Square via the Museum Oasis to Vinohradská and Škrétova are scheduled to begin at the end of June 2027.

According to DPP, construction work on Wenceslas Square is currently proceeding according to plan. The overall Wenceslas Square and Muzeum tram line project is co-financed through the EU’s 2021–2027 transport programme.
