Botanical Garden Prague invites visitors to pumpkin exhibition inspired by the prehistoric world

Dinosaurs, mammoths and pumpkin figures: From 9 October to 1 November, Botanical Garden Prague will be dedicated to the prehistoric world. Workshops, pumpkin carving and a Halloween celebration complete the programme.

Botanical Garden Prague will open its traditional pumpkin exhibition in October. Under this year’s motto “Pradávný svět” – “Prehistoric World” – the exhibition takes visitors through different periods of the Earth’s history. Among autumnal pumpkin arrangements, they will encounter dinosaurs, giant prehistoric insects, mammoths and early humans.

The exhibition runs from 9 October to 1 November 2026 and is spread across several areas of the outdoor grounds. The installations can be seen, among other places, in the Ornamental Garden, the Upper Garden and the “Forest” area.

Students from the Czech Horticultural Academy in Mělník are taking part in creating the pumpkin arrangements together with the gardeners of the Botanical Garden. The installations are complemented by interactive stations aimed at both children and adults.

Workshops and pumpkin carving

The exhibition is accompanied by an extensive family programme. Creative workshops will be offered from 9 to 11 October and from 15 to 18 October. From 22 to 25 October, visitors can carve pumpkins, while from 28 October to 1 November autumn lantern-making will be on the programme.

The workshops take place on a multifunctional area in a heated tent and can therefore also be attended during cooler autumn weather. Additional fees are charged for the individual activities on top of the regular admission price.

Pumpkins can also be purchased on site during the exhibition.

Halloween with lantern parade

The highlight will be the Halloween celebration on 31 October. Various programmes and competitions are planned for the afternoon. In the evening, a lantern parade through the Botanical Garden will follow. During the final weekend, on 31 October and 1 November, selected pumpkin installations will also be illuminated from 6 pm. During the rest of the exhibition period, there will be no special lighting after dark.

Opening hours extended until early November

The outdoor areas of the Botanical Garden are open daily from 9 am to 7 pm from 9 to 31 October. On Sunday, 1 November, the grounds will also remain open until 7 pm as an exception for the pumpkin exhibition. The shorter winter opening hours will only apply from 2 November.

The pumpkin exhibition is included in the regular admission price for the Botanical Garden. Further information can be found on the Prague Botanical Garden website.

At the same time, the exhibition “Z mechu a kapradí” is also running, focusing on plants and their development from water to life on land. Visitors can therefore combine both exhibitions during a walk through the autumn garden.
