From Sunday, tram services in Žižkov will face significant disruption. Nine routes will be affected by construction work lasting around ten weeks, with replacement buses provided.
From Sunday, 11 October, tram services between Nákladové nádraží Žižkov and Ohrada will be suspended. Due to construction work continuing until 18 December, numerous diversions and timetable changes will affect Prague's public transport network.
The Prague Public Transport Company (DPP) is beginning the modernisation of the northern section of the tram line along Jana Želivského Street. The work will last almost ten weeks and affect a total of nine tram routes.
During the construction work, tram services between the Nákladové nádraží Žižkov and Ohrada stops will be completely suspended in both directions. Seven tram routes will be diverted, while two routes will be temporarily suspended. The transport company will introduce additional bus and tram services as replacements.
Around 700 Metres of Tram Track to Be Renewed
The modernisation covers a section of almost 700 metres between the Jana Želivského/Olšanská and Jana Želivského/Hartigova junctions. The existing tracks will be replaced with a modern structure. Between Basilejské náměstí and Ohrada, a solid roadway with an asphalt surface will be constructed. This will also allow buses to use this section in future and serve shared stops with trams.
Between Nákladové nádraží Žižkov and Basilejské náměstí, the new tracks will instead be laid on a gravel bed. In addition, special vibration-reducing elements along the entire route are intended to reduce noise levels for local residents.

New Tram Line to Jarov to Be Connected
Alongside the modernisation, reconstruction of the track junction at Jana Želivského/Olšanská will be completed. This will provide a connection to the new tram line towards Jarov, which is currently being built between Olšanská and Habrová.
DPP Technical Director Jan Šurovský emphasises that the modernisation can no longer be postponed due to the partly poor condition of the tracks. The work is being deliberately coordinated with the construction of the new line to Jarov to avoid another lengthy disruption to tram services next year.
During the closure from 11 October to 18 December, the following changes will apply:
Route 5: From Jindřišská, it will run via Masarykovo nádraží, Bílá labuť, Těšnov and Vltavská to Nádraží Holešovice, where it will continue as route 6.
Route 7: From Želivského, it will be diverted via Olšanské hřbitovy, Flora and Hlavní nádraží to Bílá labuť. Some services will terminate at Olšanské hřbitovy.
Routes 9 and 10: Will terminate at Nákladové nádraží Žižkov and return towards Sídliště Řepy under the other route number.
Route 11: Will be extended from Želivského via Vinice and Depo Hostivař to Ústřední dílny DP.
Routes 16 and 34: Will be completely suspended during the construction work.
Night route 95: From Nákladové nádraží Žižkov, it will run via Želivského to Olšanské hřbitovy.
Night route 98: Will terminate at Olšanské hřbitovy.
Three additional tram routes will also be introduced:
Route 30: Sídliště Ďáblice – Kobylisy – Bulovka – Palmovka – Ohrada – Spojovací.
Route 37: Lehovec – Hloubětín – Nádraží Libeň – Palmovka – Ohrada – Spojovací.
Night route 90: Vozovna Kobylisy – Kobylisy – Bulovka – Palmovka – Ohrada – Spojovací.
Throughout the closure, the transport company will operate replacement bus services. During the day, route X9 will run between Nákladové nádraží Žižkov, Biskupcova, Ohrada and Vozovna Žižkov.
Motorists should also expect restrictions. However, Jana Želivského Street will remain open to traffic in both directions throughout the construction period, with one lane available in each direction.
The transport company recommends that passengers check the revised services before travelling. Further information on timetable changes is available on the website of the Prague Public Transport Company (DPP).
