The STAN movement, led by Petr Hlaváček, won the municipal elections in Prague. Following the vote count, STAN secured 23.17 per cent of the vote, putting it narrowly ahead of the Spolu pro Prahu alliance led by Tomáš Portlík (ODS), which received 22.05 per cent.
In third place is the Praha sobě group led by Adam Scheinherr, with 17.91 per cent. The ANO movement received 14.36 per cent, placing it fourth.
The Pirates suffered significant losses. While they received 17.7 per cent of the vote in the 2022 municipal elections, this time they secured just 9.38 per cent.
Smaller Parties Remain Below the Five Per Cent Threshold
The right-wing SPD party, which stood with the support of Trikolora, PRO and Přísaha, received 3.49 per cent. The Motoristé sobě movement, led by Foreign Minister Macinka, also failed to gain seats on Prague City Council on its second attempt, receiving 2.92 per cent of the vote. The SEN pro Prahu group led by Václav Láska also remained below the five per cent threshold, with 2.85 per cent.
Significant Shifts Compared with 2022
Compared with the municipal elections four years ago, the political balance of power in the Czech capital has changed significantly.
In the 2022 elections, the then Spolu pro Prahu alliance of ODS, TOP 09 and the Christian Democrats (KDU-ČSL) received the most votes, with 24.7 per cent. The ANO movement secured 19.3 per cent, followed by the Pirates with 17.7 per cent.
Praha sobě received 14.7 per cent four years ago, while STAN secured just 7.8 per cent of the vote. The SPD received 5.2 per cent at the time.
Opposition Secures Success in Simultaneous Senate Elections
In the simultaneous Senate elections, in which one-third of the seats are contested every two years, the opposition achieved a surprising success: five of its candidates secured an absolute majority in the first round. The remaining vacant seats will be decided in run-off elections on 16 and 17 October. The right-wing populist ANO party of Prime Minister Andrej Babiš has the most candidates – 13 in total – advancing to the second round.
It is already clear that the opposition can retain its majority in the Senate. The chamber will therefore continue to act as a counterweight to the Chamber of Deputies, which is dominated by the right-wing governing parties. The Senate can delay legislative amendments and block constitutional changes.
All results of the 2026 municipal and Senate elections can be found on the ČT24 website.
