With the new P+R car park in Opatov, Prague aims to reduce commuter traffic and make switching to public transport more attractive. In addition to almost 500 parking spaces, parking facilities for local residents and a public rooftop park are also planned.
Prague has opened a new Park-and-Ride (P+R) multi-storey car park in the Opatov district (Prague 11). The four-storey building on Chilská Street offers a total of 495 parking spaces and is aimed particularly at motorists arriving in the Czech capital via the D1 motorway.
The new car park is located in the immediate vicinity of Opatov metro station on Line C, as well as several city and regional bus routes. Motorists can leave their vehicles here and continue their journey by public transport without having to drive into the city centre.
"The new car park in Opatov is an important project for everyone who commutes to Prague via the D1 motorway every day," said Prague's Deputy Mayor for Transport, Jaromír Beránek. With almost 500 parking spaces and direct connections to the metro and buses, the facility offers a convenient way to switch to public transport. At the same time, the expansion of the P+R network is intended to ease traffic congestion in the capital.

Of the 495 parking spaces, 100 are designated for long-term rental to residents of the Prague 11 district. This is also intended to help address the long-standing shortage of parking spaces in the surrounding area.
Parking Spaces for Electric Cars, Gas-Powered Vehicles and Bicycles
The facilities also cater for vehicles with alternative powertrains. A total of 43 parking spaces on level P3 are designated for vehicles powered by CNG or LPG. Special parking spaces with charging stations for electric cars are available on level P5.
In addition, the car park offers ten parking spaces for people with reduced mobility, as well as secure parking facilities for 32 bicycles.

Rooftop Park and Green Spaces to Follow in Second Construction Phase
The opening of the car park marks the completion of the first construction phase of the project. In a second phase, a publicly accessible park is to be created on the roof of the building. Plans also include completing the footpaths and pavements around the building, as well as the final landscaping of the site.
With the new facility in Opatov, Prague is expanding its network of P+R car parks, which are primarily intended to make it easier for commuters from surrounding areas to switch from cars to public transport.
