A recent data analysis by the news portal Novinky.cz reveals where violent incidents occur most frequently in Prague. The findings highlight clear differences between the city centre and the outer districts.

Violent crime in Prague is concentrated in just a few streets and districts. An analysis of police data from the past ten years shows that almost a third of all violent offences occurred in just ten streets and their surrounding areas.

Between 2016 and 2025, Prague police recorded a total of 15,436 violent offences. Of these, 4,530 cases, or around 29 per cent, occurred in just ten streets and their immediate surroundings. This is according to an analysis by the news portal Novinky.cz, carried out in cooperation with the data project Diversight.ai.

The highest number of cases was recorded on Wilsonova. The road runs from the upper end of Wenceslas Square past Prague’s main railway station, through Florenc and towards Štvanice Island. During the period examined, 617 violent offences were recorded there and in the surrounding area. Plzeňská ranks second with 550 cases, followed by Sokolovská with 498 registered offences.

Prague City Centre Particularly Affected

The news portal’s analysis reveals clear differences between individual districts. The number of violent offences is particularly high in the historic centre. In Prague 1, an average of seven violent offences per street were recorded over the past ten years. In Prague 2 and Prague 7, the average was six cases each.

By contrast, the situation is considerably calmer in many of the large residential estates outside the city centre. Overall, half of the ten most affected streets are located in the historic centre. The remaining streets are predominantly longer main roads leading from the centre to other parts of the city.

Alcohol, Nightlife and Crowds as Risk Factors

Prague’s nightlife also plays an important role in the crime statistics. Violent confrontations occur regularly, particularly in streets with numerous bars, clubs and restaurants. Alcohol, drugs and large concentrations of people can increase the potential for conflict.

According to the news portal, the Dlouhá street in central Prague and the area around Wenceslas Square are particularly affected. In these popular nightlife areas, with their numerous bars, clubs tourist establishments, a significant proportion of violent offences occur at weekends.

Violent Crime Has Been Rising Again Since 2023

The study also shows how violent crime in the capital has developed over the past ten years. Prague recorded its highest figure in 2022, with a total of 1,787 registered violent offences.

In the following year, the number initially declined, but then began to rise steadily again. In 2025, the police recorded a total of 1,609 violent offences.

The data highlights how unevenly violent crime is distributed across Prague. While the city centre, major transport hubs and popular nightlife districts are particularly affected, the number of such offences remains comparatively low in many residential areas.
