From Tuesday, passengers at Prague's Smíchov railway station will be able to use the first two completed platforms. While work continues on further platforms, construction of the future bus terminal above the tracks is also increasingly taking shape.

The extensive modernisation of Praha-Smíchov railway station continues to progress. On Tuesday, 20 October 2026, the first two completed platforms will open to passengers. Construction work will then shift to two further platforms located closer to the historic station building.

As part of the work carried out so far, one existing platform has been completely modernised and another newly built. The latter will primarily serve trains travelling via the railway line known as the Prague Semmering to Zličín and Hostivice. Both platforms are located beneath the planned bus terminal. Access will be provided via a newly renovated pedestrian underpass.

New Pedestrian Bridge to Connect Districts

Alongside the reconstruction of the railway tracks, work on a new pedestrian bridge is progressing. The first supporting pillars are already in place. Once completed, the bridge will provide a barrier-free connection between the districts of Smíchov and Radlice, as well as the individual platforms.

According to the plans, a temporary pedestrian connection should be available by the end of 2027. Full opening is scheduled for summer 2028. Passengers will be able to access the platforms via stairs, escalators and lifts.

Construction of a modern technical building is also progressing. In addition, new bridge structures have already been installed for the three planned tracks over Nádražní Street. In the Hořejší nábřeží area, trains are currently running over a temporary steel bridge.

New Bus Terminal Planned Above the Tracks

A central part of the overall project is the future bus terminal, which will be built above the railway tracks. The foundations are already being constructed as part of the ongoing station modernisation.

The construction of the bus terminal is an investment project by the City of Prague. The investors involved have agreed to carry out the preparatory work at an early stage to minimise future disruptions to rail services.

Historic Station Building to Be Renovated from 2029

Once the current modernisation is completed, the historic station building will also undergo extensive renovation. The main focus will be on the central section of the building dating from the 1950s, including the departure hall.

According to the current timetable, renovation of the station building is scheduled for the period from 2029 to 2031. The ongoing modernisation of the railway station is expected to be completed by the end of 2028.
