Good news for people wishing to get vaccinated against flu: 300,000 doses of the Vaxigrip flu vaccine have arrived in the Czech Republic earlier than originally expected. This should improve the availability of flu vaccinations before the end of October.
During this week, the vaccine doses are due to be delivered to the warehouses of the responsible distributor. Distribution to GP surgeries and other medical facilities is expected to begin as early as next week.
The delivery is intended to improve the supply of flu vaccines during the current flu season and better meet demand for vaccinations.
Flu Vaccination Still Beneficial in November
Matyáš Fošum, Deputy Chief Public Health Officer of the Czech Republic, welcomes the earlier delivery. Flu can significantly disrupt everyday life for several days and can have serious health consequences, particularly for vulnerable groups.
The additional 300,000 vaccine doses will improve the availability of flu vaccinations as early as October. At the same time, Fošum emphasises that getting vaccinated in November is still worthwhile.
The key is for as many people as possible to take the opportunity to protect themselves against severe flu. Vaccination is among the most effective measures for reducing the risk of serious illness while also protecting family members and other close contacts.
Who Is Recommended to Get a Flu Vaccination?
Flu vaccination is generally recommended for everyone aged six months and over. It is particularly important for people who face an increased health risk from flu.
These include older people, pregnant women, people with chronic illnesses or weakened immune systems, and those who frequently suffer from respiratory infections. Vaccination is also recommended for people who regularly come into contact with or care for particularly vulnerable individuals. This includes family members, carers and medical staff.
Flu vaccination is also advised for employees in healthcare, social care facilities, education and other areas of critical infrastructure. It is also recommended for travellers.
Where Can You Get a Flu Vaccination in the Czech Republic?
Flu vaccinations in the Czech Republic are primarily offered by GPs and paediatricians. In addition, people can get vaccinated at vaccination centres and other medical facilities.
Before booking an appointment, it is advisable to check the availability of the appropriate vaccine directly with the relevant surgery or facility. The Czech Ministry of Health provides an overview of vaccination locations on its website: www.mzcr.cz.
