Car production in the Czech Republic remains at a high level in 2026. In the first nine months of the year, almost 1.1 million passenger cars rolled off production lines across the country. While overall production increased only slightly compared with the previous year, electric car production reached a new record in September.
According to the Czech Automotive Industry Association, a total of 1,095,937 passenger cars were produced between January and September. This represents an increase of 0.6 per cent compared with the same period last year. The one-million-vehicle mark was therefore once again surpassed as early as September.
Production of electrified vehicles developed particularly strongly. A total of 458,844 passenger cars with electric, plug-in hybrid or hybrid powertrains were manufactured. Their share of total Czech passenger car production rose to almost 42 per cent.
September Sets New Record for Electric Car Production
With 25,708 battery-electric vehicles produced, September was the strongest month for electric car production in the Czech Republic to date. Together with plug-in hybrids, monthly production of vehicles with external charging capability exceeded 30,000 units for the first time. Their share of total passenger car production reached 23.7 per cent, exceeding the share of conventional hybrid vehicles for the first time.
More Than 92 Per Cent of Vehicles Are Exported
The Czech automotive industry remains heavily dependent on foreign markets. Of the almost 1.1 million passenger cars produced, 1,014,131 vehicles were exported. This represents a share of more than 92 per cent and an increase in exports of 0.5 per cent compared with the previous year. A total of 81,806 vehicles were destined for the domestic market, an increase of 2.4 per cent.

Škoda Auto Increases Production by Four Per Cent
The Czech Republic's largest car manufacturer, Škoda Auto, produced 733,954 vehicles at its domestic plants between January and September, an increase of four per cent. Of these, 663,412 vehicles were exported, while 70,542 cars were destined for the Czech market. In September, daily production at Škoda once again exceeded 4,000 vehicles.
The manufacturer also recorded growth in electric mobility. Škoda produced a total of 195,385 electric cars and plug-in hybrids, accounting for 26.6 per cent of the brand's domestic production. These included 169,708 fully electric cars and 25,677 plug-in hybrids.
Hyundai and Toyota Record Production Declines
While Škoda increased production, the other two major passenger car manufacturers in the Czech Republic recorded declining production figures.
Hyundai's plant in Nošovice produced 196,660 vehicles between January and September, a decrease of 8.1 per cent compared with the previous year. Of these, 22,336 were fully electric cars, 12,581 were plug-in hybrids and 63,219 were conventional hybrid models. Electrified vehicles therefore accounted for almost half of total production.
Toyota Motor Manufacturing Czech Republic produced a total of 165,323 vehicles at its plant in Kolín, 2.8 per cent fewer than in the previous year. All vehicles were equipped with hybrid powertrains, and more than 98.9 per cent were destined for export.
The decline in production in August and September was linked to an extended technical shutdown, which Toyota used to prepare for a new battery-electric vehicle production project.
Bus, Lorry and Motorcycle Production Also Increases
In addition to passenger car production, other sectors of the Czech vehicle industry also developed positively. In the first nine months, 4,162 buses were manufactured, an increase of 1.2 per cent. These included 190 fully electric buses and 292 hybrid buses.
Lorry production recorded particularly strong growth: Tatra Trucks manufactured 1,232 vehicles, 41.1 per cent more than in the previous year. Motorcycle manufacturer Jawa also recorded an increase of 6.3 per cent, producing 603 motorcycles.
Production of trailers and semi-trailers also rose significantly, increasing by 14.4 per cent to 15,286 units.
