The tram stop at Strossmayerovo náměstí in Prague 7 is being upgraded to improve accessibility and safety. Work will take place while the stop remains in operation and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
Measures to improve road safety and accessibility at Strossmayerovo náměstí in Prague 7 are continuing. Construction work is now beginning at the tram stop in the southern section of Dukelských hrdinů Street.
As part of the work, the tram stop island will be widened and made fully accessible. The surrounding areas will also be adapted to provide passengers with easier and safer access. This includes new tactile guidance elements for visually impaired people.
Construction work will extend from Strossmayerovo náměstí towards Kostelní Street and will be carried out in several stages. Around half of the tram stop island will remain accessible to passengers during each stage. Tram services at the stop can therefore continue throughout the construction period.
Greater Safety for Pedestrians and Cyclists
Another key focus is improving pedestrian routes around the stop. Access from Strossmayerovo náměstí will be raised to the same level as the tram stop island and pavement. A similar solution is already in place at the stop near Veletržní palác (Trade Fair Palace).
The roadway between the tram stop island and the pavement will remain in place. In future, it will primarily be used by cyclists and, when necessary, by emergency vehicles from the ambulance service, fire brigade and police.
Additional measures will also be implemented to improve pedestrian safety in the surrounding area. Following the redesign of the street corner at the Dukelských hrdinů/Milady Horákové junction during the summer, adjustments will now be made at the Dukelských hrdinů/Na Ovčinách junction. The pedestrian crossing there will be shortened, while new bollards will help prevent illegal parking.
Completion Planned by the End of 2026
The work is expected to be fully completed by the end of 2026, depending on weather conditions. During construction, passengers and pedestrians should expect temporary restrictions around the tram stop.
