Demand for the new Petřín funicular remains high, with more services therefore planned for winter too. In November, however, the popular Prague transport service will temporarily become a filming location for Netflix.

The modernised Petřín funicular has proved hugely popular since returning to service. From the start of trial operations on 22 September to the end of October 2026, Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) carried a total of 413,615 passengers. This equates to an average of 10,340 passengers per day.

To meet the high demand, the funicular will continue to run according to its summer timetable throughout the autumn and winter months. Additional services will be provided when needed.

Four-day suspension in November

The Petřín funicular will be out of service from Tuesday 10 November to Friday 13 November 2026 inclusive due to filming. It will feature in a Netflix adaptation of Dan Brown’s new novel, The Secret of Secrets. Services are scheduled to resume on Saturday 14 November. According to DPP, the Petřín Lookout Tower, Prague’s trams and the metro will also feature in the production alongside the funicular.

Particularly high demand at weekends

DPP recorded its highest passenger numbers to date on Sunday 27 September: according to the company, the total of 16,523 passengers marked an all-time record. The largest number of additional services had been required the previous day, when DPP provided 70 extra journeys.

During the first 40 days of operation, there were only seven days when no additional services were needed. In total, the new carriages completed 7,624 journeys, comprising 6,708 scheduled journeys, 754 additional journeys and 162 operational journeys.

Next maintenance scheduled for March 2027

As the new generation of the funicular only began carrying passengers in the second half of September, the usual autumn maintenance will not take place. The next closure for technical inspections and routine maintenance is scheduled for 8–25 March 2027. This should allow the funicular to resume services in time for Easter.

Maintenance usually takes place twice a year, in spring and autumn. Depending on the scope of the work, it lasts three to four weeks.
