Special tram and exhibitions mark the 80th anniversary of the Prague Uprising

The tram not only provides information about the Prague Uprising, but also about other events in the Czech Republic at the end of the Second World War

On the 80th anniversary of the Prague Uprising, a specially designed tram in Prague commemorates the heroism of the population in May 1945. It is accompanied by several exhibitions recalling the liberation of the capital and the end of the Second World War.

To mark both the anniversary of the Prague Uprising and the end of the Second World War, a newly decorated tram named Prague, the City of Heroes began operating in the capital on Tuesday. The Škoda 15T tram will run in the city for around six months, and its distinctive appearance serves as a reminder of the courage of Prague’s citizens during the events of May 1945. Its design, featuring the Czech national colours and significant historical dates, is a tribute to the inhabitants of the capital and the heroes of the uprising.

The official launch of the tram took place on Tuesday, 6 May 2025, when it set off from Stromovka on line 18 for its inaugural journey across Prague. The tram is expected to operate until the end of the year.

On board, passengers will not only find information about the Prague Uprising, but also about other events in the Czech Republic towards the end of the Second World War. Eleven plaques inside the tram commemorate, for example, the burning of the Old Town Hall, the return of the Czechoslovak air squadrons, and the role of the Russian Liberation Army, the Soviets and the Americans in the liberation of the country.
