    Sparta Prague start in Switzerland

On Wednesday, the first encounter between HC Sparta Prague and EV Zug in the Round of 16 of the Champions Hockey League will take place in Zug. Although Sparta Prague are playing their seventh season on Europe’s biggest club ice hockey stage, and EV Zug are appearing for the ninth time under the CHL banner, this is the first ever meeting between these two established European clubs in the competition.

Sparta travel to Switzerland as one of the most in-form teams in the CHL. The Czechs finished fourth in the group stage with five wins from six games and concluded the campaign with a convincing 4–0 home victory over Grenoble. Balanced and disciplined, Sparta showed solid defensive form, conceding only nine goals in six matches – one of the best defensive records in the tournament – while remaining dangerous in attack.
