From diplomats and doctors to pilots and bankers: everyone is at the starting line for the UniCredit Pražská Štafeta

Interest is enormous: all starting places are fully booked, with over 8,000 runners registered

This week in Prague, the starting signal will be given for the UniCredit Pražská Štafeta – a popular team relay race for companies, embassies and industry associations. More than 8,000 runners will compete against each other in Stromovka Park.

The RunCzech running calendar returns to the Czech capital. Tomorrow, Tuesday and Wednesday, Prague will host the traditional UniCredit Pražská Štafeta – a popular team relay race with a clear focus on the corporate world. ‘Once again, we are bringing managers and employees from various industries onto the running track. The relay races cover many professional fields and promote sporting competition between colleagues,’ says Carlo Capalbo, chairman of the RunCzech organising committee.

Interest is enormous: all starting places are fully booked, with over 8,000 runners registered. The next generation is also taking part: around 400 children will be competing in the dm bambini run.

Six relay races – six professional groups

The relay races are spread over two days and are thematically assigned to the respective professional groups. The Bank Cup kicks things off on Tuesday – a competition exclusively for bank employees and members of the Czech Banking Association. The Diplomatic Cup also takes place on Tuesday, with employees from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, embassies, consulates, international organisations and cultural centres competing.

Four more races follow on Wednesday: The Medical Cup is for doctors, nurses, nursing staff and other healthcare professionals. The Chambers Cup is aimed at employees of chambers of commerce and industry. The Aviation Cup is for employees of the aviation industry, including pilots, flight attendants, air traffic control staff and airline managers. The final event is the Automotive Cup, an exclusive race for employees of the automotive industry and vehicle trade.

Sporting commitment – followed by a picnic together

‘First the sport, then the fun’ – this motto also applies to the runners of the UniCredit Pražská Štafeta. After the race, the teams can look forward to a picnic box with refreshments to round off the day in the countryside with their colleagues. A DJ will provide musical accompaniment until 10 p.m.

‘We also offer so-called team boxes – small tents right next to the course where teams can meet, relax and cheer each other on,’ explains Jiří Nečásek, Head of Communications at RunCzech. ‘Our goal is to get people out of their office chairs and get them moving before summer.’

Route through the park – traffic remains unaffected

The race will take place in Prague’s Stromovka Park, a popular venue for numerous RunCzech events such as the Junior Marathon and the dm Family Runs as part of the ORLEN Prague Marathon.

Each runner completes a five-kilometre circuit that passes the Planetarium, several ponds and the baroque Místodržitelský letohrádek pleasure palace, among other sights. At the three-kilometre mark, a refreshment station provides cooling, and two spray stations along the route and in the finish area will provide pleasant cooling in the summer heat.
