Since 1 August 2025, passengers on regional and suburban buses within the Prague Integrated Transport System (PID) have been able to board through all doors. The measure is designed to speed up boarding, reduce delays, and noticeably improve comfort during rush hours.
Commuters in Greater Prague have experienced a significant change in public bus transport since 1 August 2025. On more than 100 regional and suburban bus routes within the Prague Integrated Transport System (PID), boarding is now permitted through all doors – a concept previously only familiar in Prague’s urban public transport. The aim of this measure is to speed up boarding, reduce delays and improve passenger comfort.
Up to now, passengers had to present or buy their tickets from the driver, often resulting in delays at heavily frequented stops. Under the new system, an expanded team of ticket inspectors will carry out ticket checks directly on board the buses.

What changes
- The “boarding through all doors” scheme has been extended from nine test routes to a further 99 daytime and ten night routes.
- The affected services mainly cover connections between Prague and surrounding municipalities with several stops within the city area. –
- Anyone holding a valid ticket – either digital or paper – can board through any door. Passengers without a ticket must still enter at the front door, where tickets will continue to be sold.
Benefits for passengers
The new rule is expected to significantly reduce waiting times at bus stops, eliminate queues at the front door and thus shorten travel times, especially during peak hours. Transport planners also hope that the more convenient boarding system will encourage more people to switch to bus travel.
Identification of buses
All affected routes will be marked in timetables, in the PID Lítačka app, and in online schedules with the note “NÁSTUP VŠEMI DVEŘMI”. The new boarding system will also be visibly indicated on the buses themselves.
Stricter checks – higher fines for fare evaders
At the same time, ticket inspections will become stricter. Anyone caught without a valid ticket will face the following fines:
- 1,500 CZK if paid immediately on the spot
- 2,000 CZK if transferred within 15 days
- 2,500 CZK after the deadline
Within Prague, the fines remain unchanged for the time being (1,000 CZK on the spot, 1,500 CZK if paid within 15 days).
Trial phase until the end of 2026
This new boarding system will initially run as a pilot project until the end of 2026. If successful, it will gradually be extended to other routes. However, should fare discipline among passengers prove too low, the rule could be revoked. The success of the measure therefore largely depends on the responsible behaviour of travellers.
