Sale of Motorway Vignettes in the Czech Republic Rose by Around 20% in July Compared to the Previous Year

The introduction of the one-day vignette in March last year also contributed to the growth in sales figures

The sale of motorway vignettes in the Czech Republic increased by 20 percent in July 2025. The revenue from the vignettes helps finance the expansion of 200 kilometres of new motorways currently under construction.

In July this year, the sale of motorway vignettes in the Czech Republic recorded a significant increase of around 20 percent compared to the previous year. A total of more than 1.1 million vignettes were sold. This represents a rise of 170,000 electronic vignettes compared to July of the previous year. The additional revenue from motorway tolls thus makes a significant contribution to financing the ongoing expansion of the fundamental motorway network in the Czech Republic.

“The rise in sales figures, particularly for short-term vignettes, is primarily due to increased interest in travelling across the country, but also to the construction of new motorway sections. Currently, 200 kilometres of motorways are under construction, and contracts are being awarded for a further 73 kilometres. By 2033, the core motorway network in the Czech Republic is to be fully completed,” explains Transport Minister Martin Kupka.

In July, a total of 1,139,009 vignettes of all types were sold, generating revenue of nearly 694 million crowns. In the same month last year, 969,039 vignettes were sold for over 575 million crowns. The introduction of the one-day vignette in March 2024 also contributed to the growth in sales figures.

“Previously, many people who only made a single motorway journey avoided buying a ten-day vignette and therefore used toll-free routes. Now they purchase the affordable one-day vignette. Interestingly, it has been shown that sales of electronic daily vignettes have no negative impact on sales of other vignette types,” says Zbyněk Hořelica, Director of the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure (Státní fond dopravní infrastruktury: SFDI).

The majority of one-day vignettes were purchased by motorists via the official state online shop edalnice.cz (93%). Other sales channels include petrol stations of the EuroOil and RobinOil chains, post offices (6%), and kiosks near the border (1%).

For the year 2025, the price of the annual vignette is 2,440 crowns, the monthly vignette costs 460 crowns, the ten-day vignette 290 crowns, and the one-day vignette 210 crowns. According to European directives, emission-free vehicles with electric or hydrogen propulsion are exempt from tolls. Hybrid vehicles with a combined emission value of up to 50 g CO₂/km pay 25% of the time-dependent fee. Vehicles powered by natural gas or biomethane continue to receive a 50% discount.

All current types of vignettes can be purchased up to 30 days in advance via the official websites edalnice.cz or edalnice.gov.cz.
