Following the cable fire in early July, Staroměstská metro station will return to full operation this Friday. Prague Public Transport (DPP) has largely completed repairs to the escalators, while police continue to investigate the incident.
DPP has finished repairing the second of three escalator sections at Staroměstská. After the July fire, which had led to major restrictions in recent weeks, passengers will once again be able to use the station normally from Friday, 22 August 2025.
Originally, part of the escalator system was already scheduled for repair, but the fire also damaged the remaining installations. The work is not yet fully complete: repairs to the final, third escalator section are still under way in parallel with the reopening.
The station on Line A had been partly closed since July, when a cable fire broke out. According to police, the blaze was likely caused by a burning object being thrown into the station. The criminal police are investigating on suspicion of reckless public endangerment. Six teenagers have since been identified and questioned. No further details of the ongoing investigation are currently available.
