National Museum Prague: Exhibition “Lucy and Selam”, Two of the Most Spectacular Fossils in Human History, Opens

The exhibition will be on display in the museum’s historic building until the end of October

The spectacular exhibition “Lucy and Selam” was officially opened today at the National Museum in Prague. For the first time, two of the most famous fossils in human history have left their home country, Ethiopia, to be presented in Europe.

The Czech Republic has long been one of Europe’s most popular cultural destinations. Castles, palaces, galleries, and museums attract millions of visitors each year, and statistics confirm that cultural tourism is one of the main reasons people visit the country. This trend is now gaining additional momentum: today at midday, the National Museum in Prague opened the new exhibition of the skeletal remains of the world-famous Lucy and the child fossil Selam.

A little under two weeks ago, two of the most spectacular fossils in human history arrived in Prague: Lucy and Selam, world-renowned human ancestors. For the first time ever, these unique remains have left Ethiopia to be exhibited in Europe – at the National Museum in Prague.

“The arrival of Lucy and Selam in Prague is a dream come true for the National Museum and for me personally – and undoubtedly one of the most significant moments in our history,” said Director General Michal Lukeš.

These fossils are among the most valuable paleoanthropological discoveries worldwide, and the Czech Republic is the only European country to display these treasures on loan from Ethiopia. This places not only the capital but the entire country firmly on the global cultural map. The exhibition will be on display in the museum’s historic building from today until the end of October.

The National Museum will be open daily from 9 am to 6 pm. Tickets can be booked via the museum’s website or app as timed-entry tickets for a specific day and time.
