Prague 1 has launched a new awareness campaign aimed at tourists. The goal is to protect the quality of life for residents while also preserving the historic city centre for all visitors.
The Prague 1 city administration, together with Prague City Tourism, has initiated this campaign, which is primarily aimed at tourists. Its purpose is to improve the quality of life for residents while maintaining the special atmosphere of the historic centre for everyone – locals and visitors alike.
The campaign focuses on observing nighttime quiet in residential areas, combating illegal city tours, and adhering to alcohol bans in public spaces.
As part of the initiative, informational leaflets will be distributed at busy locations such as Dlouhá Street and around the Old Town Square. They form the “Ten Commandments for Visitors” of the long-term Enjoy Respect Prague awareness campaign. The recommendations remind visitors that Prague is, first and foremost, home to its residents. The campaign is complemented by video spots encouraging tourists to behave responsibly – from respecting nighttime quiet and using official city guides to travelling sustainably on foot or via public transport.
Another key aspect of the campaign is animal welfare: visitors are urged to refrain from offers to take photos with exotic animals, such as snakes, in the city centre.
“Prague 1 is a place where residents’ daily lives meet intensive tourism. Our task is to protect the quality of life of the people while creating an environment in which visitors feel welcome and safe,” explains Terezie Radoměřská, Mayor of Prague 1.
“It is important to us that tourists and locals share the space respectfully. This principle shapes all our activities. Prague primarily belongs to the people of Prague, and we want to ensure they can enjoy a pleasant life. With our informational leaflet, we now provide visitors with a clear guide to the rules for considerate behaviour in the historic centre of the Czech capital,” adds Jana Adamcová, Deputy Chair of Prague City Tourism.
