New Memorandum Coordinates VRT Praha Rail Project with Prague City Planning

The aim is to ensure the railway line is developed with a coordinated connection to public transport

The capital city of Prague is advancing preparations for the construction of the high-speed line to Brno. A new memorandum is intended to ensure that the major VRT Praha project is closely aligned with urban development in Prague 10.

The Prague City Council has approved a memorandum on cooperation between the City of Prague, the Railway Administration (Správa železnic), and the Prague 10 district. The purpose of the agreement is to coordinate the preparation of the construction of the high-speed line from Prague to Brno – specifically the VRT Praha section – with the planned urban development in the Bohdalec–Slatiny area, as well as with the implementation of the Drážní Promenade, an important pedestrian and cycle route connecting Vršovice and Strašnice.

Prague Mayor Bohuslav Svoboda stated: “Through the agreement with the Railway Administration and Prague 10, we are ensuring that the railway line is developed together with the Drážní Promenade and improved connections to public transport. These projects are intended to benefit the people.”

The agreement also includes coordination with other infrastructure projects, including the planned Bohdalec–Vršovice tram line, which is set to become part of Prague’s tram ring in the future. Together with other construction projects, it aims to transform the currently neglected area into a modern, liveable district.

“For Prague 10, this agreement is of central importance,” says Martin Valovič, Mayor of the district. “It allows us to better integrate major state investments with our local development goals and to transform previously neglected areas into attractive, functioning neighbourhoods.”

Plans are also underway for the construction of a new building for the dispatching centre, which will in future manage and control rail traffic on the high-speed lines. The new building will be erected near the existing dispatch centre in Prague-Balabenka (Praha 8). Construction work is scheduled to begin in 2027.
