In September, the unemployment rate in the Czech Republic remained unchanged at 4.5 %. Graduates in particular influenced the statistics, while many other applicants found new employment. Overall, the labour market remains stable.
The situation on the Czech labour market remains steady: in September, the unemployment rate was, as in August, 4.5 %. “The increase in registered unemployed is primarily due to newly graduated students. At the same time, parents with young children or other individuals who took up work after the summer holidays leave the statistics. The labour market continues to show good results and is in good shape,” explained Marian Jurečka (KDU-ČSL), Minister of Labour and Social Affairs.
In September, 12,773 graduates registered with the employment offices, accounting for 23.1 % of all newly registered unemployed. Overall, the number of new registrations rose by 18,857 compared to the previous month and by 2,487 year-on-year. Among the districts, the Brno-město employment office recorded the highest number of new unemployed with 2,064 people, while the fewest were in Jeseník district with 192 people.
At the same time, 50,992 people left the unemployment statistics in September – 18,679 more than in the previous month and 2,771 more than a year ago. Overall, 39,338 people took up new employment. Of the total registered unemployed, 182,450 were women, representing 54 % of the total.
Unemployment by Region
The highest unemployment rates continued to be recorded in the Ústecký Kraj (6.8 %) and Moravskoslezský Kraj (6.3 %). Compared to August, the rate in Karlovarský Kraj rose by 0.2 percentage points, and in the regions of Liberecký, Královehradecký, Pardubický, Ústecký, Zlínský and Vysočina each by 0.1 percentage points. In all other regions, the rate remained stable, and no region recorded a decrease. Year-on-year, the unemployment rate increased most sharply in Liberecký Kraj (+1.0 pp) and Karlovarský Kraj (+0.9 pp).
Almost 95,800 Vacancies Through Employment Offices
At the end of September, employers reported a total of 95,766 vacancies via the Czech employment office, 649 more than in August. The most vacancies were again in Prague (22,857) and the Central Bohemian Region (15,368). On average, there are about 3.5 unemployed per vacancy. The regions of Karviná (22.4), Sokolov (16), Děčín (15.3) and Hodonín (12.2) are particularly heavily represented. There is especially high demand for construction workers, forklift operators, warehouse staff, lorry and articulated lorry drivers, chefs, assembly workers and cleaners.
