Národní technické muzeum: Böhmerland or Čechie – The Longest Motorcycle in the World

New exhibition at the Technical Museum Prague dedicated to the legendary Čechie–Böhmerland motorcycles

At the Technical Museum in Prague, a new exhibition dedicated to the legendary Čechie–Böhmerland motorcycles has opened. Around one hundred years after production began, visitors can for the first time see all models of these extraordinary, world’s longest production motorcycles – including reconstructed prototypes.

The National Technical Museum (NTM) in Prague presents from today the exhibition “Böhmerland or Čechie – The Longest Motorcycle in the World” on the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of the production of these extraordinary motorcycles. The machines are considered the longest series-produced motorcycles in the world and were manufactured from 1925 in the Šluknovský výběžek region under the direction of designer Albin Liebisch. The exhibition offers for the first time a comprehensive overview of all built models – visitors can admire around thirty Čechie–Böhmerland motorcycles, including unique replicas of lost prototypes.

“The exhibition presents thirty unique motorcycles, highly valued by collectors, from Čechie–Böhmerland – and that on the hundredth anniversary of the production of this brand. The machines have never been shown on this scale. It also recalls the fascinating history of small manufacturers in the German-speaking border regions during the interwar period,” explained Karel Ksandr, General Director of the NTM.

Particularly noteworthy is a motorcycle from the Dresden Museum. It has a fully documented history: in 1935 it was purchased by a police sergeant from Nejdek, who was expelled to Germany after the war but took his beloved Böhmerland with him. One third of the motorcycles on display come from foreign collections, the majority from Austria, from collector Ewald Schoissengeier, who has rebuilt lost prototypes of the brand, added Arnošt Nezmeškal, Director of the NTM Transport Museum and curator of the exhibition.

Albin Hugo Liebisch’s aim was to build a reliable, comfortable, and safe motorcycle for the rough roads of Czechoslovakia, capable of carrying even daring riders across the Alps to the Mediterranean.

By the start of the Second World War, around 750 motorcycles had been produced, notable for their unusual construction and distinctive design. Even in their time, they were considered rare; later, they became particularly sought-after historic vehicles. The exhibition presents the entire history of the Čechie–Böhmerland motorcycles and all produced models.

The exhibition is rounded off by the story of the company’s closure, the expulsion of its founder to Germany, and his unsuccessful attempts to resume production in Bavaria.

The exhibition “Böhmerland or Čechie – The Longest Motorcycle in the World” runs from 7 November 2025 to 22 March 2026.
