Prague’s Petřín Tower is being modernised: a new bistro in the basement, a café on the ground floor, and a souvenir shop are intended to make the popular attraction fit for the future.
Prague’s Petřín Tower, one of the most visited attractions in the Czech capital, is receiving a modern upgrade. Planned are, among other things, a new bistro in the basement, a souvenir shop, and a café on the ground floor, as well as technical renovations.
The Prague City Council has approved the plan to modernise the Petřín Tower (Petřínská rozhledna). The renovation, valued at 95 million crowns, is expected to be completed by 2027.
“This investment is being carried out at the request of the municipal company Prague City Tourism, which has leased the Petřín Tower. A study for the project is already available, and the documentation for the building permit is currently being finalised. The actual renovation is scheduled to begin next year,” explains Adam Zábranský, Councillor for Property, Legislation and Transparency.

The comprehensive modernisation concerns not only the tower itself, whose steel structure is regularly maintained, but also the adjacent public areas. This includes the redesign of the basement for the new bistro, the installation of a new tubus on the ground floor with ticket office, souvenir shop, and café, as well as the adaptation of the outdoor terrace. In addition, technical systems (ventilation, heating and cooling), utility lines (water, sewage, electrical installations, etc.), as well as flooring and window elements will be renewed. The cost of the works amounts to around 95 million crowns and is expected to be completed by 2027.
The scope and function of the tower’s festive lighting will remain unchanged; the lighting system was already modernised between 2019 and 2021.
The Petřín Tower traditionally ranks among the most visited towers in Prague and is overall one of the five most visited attractions in the Czech capital.
