Slightly falling case numbers: 37 new infections were recently recorded. In the past week, 37 new infections were reported. However, the authorities are not yet speaking of a genuine easing of the situation.
In Prague, 37 new cases of Hepatitis A were registered last week. This was reported by the capital’s hygiene station on platform X. Although the number is slightly below the figures of previous weeks, experts so far speak only of a cautious improvement. Since the beginning of the year, a total of 1,108 people have been infected in Prague, including 194 children. The authorities describe it as a local epidemic and started a vaccination campaign several weeks ago.
“Last week we registered 37 new cases. This is a slight improvement, but after just one week it is too early to speak of a clear trend,” explained the Prague hygiene station. In connection with Hepatitis A, the authority has already issued 7,028 orders this year regarding medical supervision, tightened health control, or measures in community facilities.

As the virus is primarily transmitted through poor hand hygiene, authorities and doctors are calling on the public to exercise increased caution. Regular handwashing with water and soap remains the simplest and most important protection. The crucial factor is the correct duration of handwashing – at least ten to twenty seconds – and ideally followed by disinfection.
The most common symptoms of Hepatitis A
The symptoms of Hepatitis A initially resemble those of the flu: fever, loss of appetite, nausea, and pain in the right upper abdomen. As the illness progresses, jaundice of the skin and eyes occurs, along with dark urine, lighter stools, and sometimes intense itching – typical signs of liver inflammation.
