Prague Zoo launches Advent campaign “Adopt me!”

The campaign aims to make lesser-known animals more visible and to find sponsors or godparents for them

Prague Zoo is launching its traditional Advent campaign “Adopt me!” for orphaned animals again this year. The aim is to make lesser-known animals more visible and to find sponsors or godparents for them. This year, ten animals of different species are in the spotlight.

They are often overlooked or simply unpopular – sometimes they have only recently been born. We are talking about orphaned animals, which Prague Zoo traditionally presents as Advent approaches. The popular campaign “Adopt me!” (Adoptuj mě!) is, from this week, visible both in public places across the Czech Republic and online. The goal is to raise awareness of selected zoo species and ideally find godparents for them.

This year, the project focuses on ten animals: four mammals, three birds, and one reptile, amphibian, and fish each. Among them are a South American tapir, a Southern marmoset, a cormorant, and a white-bearded tree frog. The full list of animals can be found at: www.zoopraha.cz/seznam-zvirat (CZ).

While godparents are being sought for the mammals, the other species also require sponsor support. An adoption certificate can be an ideal Christmas present for any animal lover. Certificate holders are also invited to special events, such as the ceremonial opening of the new season in spring, the anniversary festival in September, or the sponsors’ meeting in December at Prague Zoo.

As every year, the campaign is not only about financing the care of selected animals. Another goal is to popularise lesser-known zoo residents. Each animal has its own particularities and deserves our attention.
